How do you brew?

Preparing the Wort

Preparing the wort is one of the biggest tasks for homebrewers on brewing day.  Taking your time and producing quality wort chocked full of fermentable sugars, proteins and nutrients is the surest way to produce a quality beer.  There are many different ways to prepare wort, but we will focus in on the three most common methods.  Whichever method you choose you can be sure that with a little effort and the right ingredients you will be on your way to amazing your friends and family!

Extract Method – The extract method is the easiest to get started with and requires the least amount of equipment.  This is a good starting point for beginners.

Partial Mash Method – The partial mash method combines the techniques of the other two methods.  While it is move involved than the extract method it doesn’t require much more in the way of equipment.  This is a good method for extract brewers looking for more of a challenge.

All-Grain Method – The all-grain method of wort preparation uses many of the same processes and techniques of commercial breweries.  All-grain wort preparation is more time consuming than the other methods and requires more equipment that can be rather pricy.  This is a good method for those who like a challenge and want to brew beer the same way the “Big Boys” do.
